About Me
I’m Rosemin Abdeen, an Online Specialist Speech and Language Therapist specialising in Selective Mutism (SM) and communication needs across childhood and adolescence.
I support children who find communication difficult in certain settings, as well as families who are looking for clarity, reassurance and specialist guidance.
I have worked with children for over a decade and my approach is gentle, collaborative and emotionally attuned. Many families come to me after feeling stuck – concerned that referrals have stalled, unsure of what their child needs or worried that their child’s voice is going unheard.
My role is to help you understand what’s happening, create a plan that fits your child and support you step-by-step as they make progress.
My Experience
I have been delivering speech and language therapy for children for over 15 years, working with families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
My experience includes supporting children across mainstream schools, specialist settings, early years and online clinical practice. I am particularly passionate about helping children with Selective Mutism make gradual, meaningful progress using structured, evidence-based approaches.
My Story
When I trained as a Speech and Language Therapist, my intention was always to make a meaningful difference in families lives in a way that was thoughtful, evidence-led and truly responsive to their needs.
Early in my career, I worked within the NHS. While this provided valuable experience, I gradually realised that the structure of the system often prioritised waiting times, thresholds and service pressures over the depth and flexibility of support many children require – particularly those with complex communication needs or anxiety around speaking. I found myself questioning whether the way therapy was delivered always allowed children to reach their full potential.
In 2018, I made the difficult decision to step away from NHS work. This period became one of reflection and recalibration, as I sought clarity around the kind of clinician I wanted to be and the values I wanted my work to reflect. With professional guidance from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, I found my footing again and began to move forward with renewed purpose.
I later worked privately within an award-winning speech and language therapy service, where I experienced a different model of care – one that allowed for flexibility, collaboration and truly child-centred, evidence-based intervention. During this time, I redeveloped my skills, deepened my clinical confidence and witnessed the impact that thoughtful, well-paced support can have on children and families.
It was also during this period that I deepened my understanding of what it feels like to be overwhelmed internally and how profoundly this can affect communication, confidence and participation. Through personal reflection, mindfulness, grounding practices and self-regulation, I developed tools that not only strengthened my clinical work, but also shaped how I relate to children and families with sensitivity and respect. This lived understanding has become an important part of how I support children who find communication emotionally demanding, allowing me to work with empathy, patience and genuine attunement to each child’s pace.
In 2024, I established my independent practice as a natural progression in my professional journey, allowing me to work more autonomously and in a way that reflects my personal values: calm, ethical, evidence-based care that centres on what children genuinely need to thrive, alongside a responsibility to act with conscience both within and beyond my clinical work.
I see this work as a responsibility and a trust and I aim to carry it with care, integrity and compassion.
